5Q Top 100 WR Stefon Diggs is still looking for a good fit.
Signing Day seems to get more and more hectic every year. Prospects (and their families) seem to have a growing penchant for the dramatic leading to Signing Day switches galore, but that is what makes National Signing Day the event that it is. Let’s face it, it’s a soap opera for men.
The drama isn’t entirely over, however. Three 5Q Top 250 prospects remain unsigned. Let’s take a quick look at the prospects that remain on the board:
Stefon Diggs (WR, Good Counsel) will hold out until at least February 10th at this point. Diggs is without question one of the biggest playmakers in this entire class, but he comes with a little extra baggage that may have cooled a few programs. It has been a long process for the talented receiver. I truly don’t feel that he has any real idea where he will land at this point, though it will likely come down to the schools he has made officials to which are California, Florida, Auburn and Ohio State. The wildcard is hometown school Maryland, who he will take a last second visit to this weekend.
Davonte Neal (WR, Chaparral) Davonte Neal had thought that his recruitment was over until he tried to commit to Ohio State and was then told that they no longer had room for him. There has been a few reports with conflicting info, so it is hard to say what really happened, but it appears as if it is down to Arizona (who he will possibly visit on February 10th) and Oklahoma at this point.
The Tucson Citizen has a full report of the Ohio State situation, including a full response from Davonte’s father Luke Neal.
Jordan Diamond (OT, Simeon) hasn’t had nearly as tumultuous a recruitment as the previous two, though he has flirted with several schools. Diamond had made it very clear all along that he would be announcing with his teammates on February 3rd and that is exactly what he will do. Michigan was once thought to be a lock for his commitment, but it is hardly a forgone conclusion that he will be a Wolverine tomorrow. Arkansas, Auburn and Wisconsin join Michigan as the schools in the running for Diamond’s services tomorrow.
