Entering his 12th NFL season, Stefan Diggs' future was uncertain. He joins the Commanders, and we take a look at what that means.
Entering his 12th NFL season, Stefan Diggs' future was uncertain. For most of NFL Free Agency this offseason Diggs had no suitors. Training camps began without him and hope was generally lost for him to find a new team. Diggs was coming off an impressive season with the Patriots in 2025, posting 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns. He even punched himself a ticket to the Superbowl for the first time in his career with New England, who fell just short of the Lombardi Trophy in February earlier this year. But that all changed on Wednesday August 5th when Diggs inked a 1 year 12 million dollar deal with the 5-12 Washington Commanders, a far cry from what Diggs once was: An AFC Champion. So what does Diggs bring to the DMV? One thing is evident… Trouble.
Diggs is 32 years old touting a 6’0 frame at 191 lbs. Excluding his stint in Houston where he was injured for half of the season (2024), Diggs has posted over 1,000 yards receiving every season since 2018 where he broke out in Minnesota. While he’s only posted double digit touchdown seasons twice in this span, it's no secret that Stefan Diggs has a knack for the ball. Stefan Diggs has caught balls from Josh Allen, CJ Stroud, and even Vikings legends like Kirk Cousins, Case Keenum, and Teddy Bridgewater. Now he gets to receive balls from none other than Jayden Daniels, the Washington Commanders Quarterback. But is this all Diggs brings to the table?
Diggs is a Maryland Native. He played high school ball for Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. He was even the Gatorade Player of the Year Runner-Up in Maryland in 2010, losing to Zach Zwinak who went on to play for Penn State and was never drafted into the NFL. He also played three years for the Maryland Terrapins before being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2015. For almost a decade, Diggs caused problems for defenses on the Gridiron. But in 2025, Diggs started causing problems off the Gridiron as well.
On March 25th, 2025 Diggs signed to play for the New England Patriots for their 2025-2026 campaign. Approximately three months after being signed on May 28th, a video of Diggs blew up on social media. Diggs appeared to be on a boat passing a bag of ‘pink crystals’ to a group of women who were with him, supposedly partying. After the video surfaced, Diggs responded to questions about the video during Patriots Minicamp stating, "I kind of, like, have a thing where [I don't] talk about my personal life with people I don't know personally. I'm pretty sure everybody here, men and women, are great people, but I try to keep my personal life personal.” So what did we do at 5th Quarter Sports? We looked into his personal life.
While controversy stirred over the boat video, another point of interest surrounded rapper Cardi B who was allegedly also on this boat with Diggs. At the time rumors swirled about a possible relationship between the two. Later in October 2025, it was revealed that Diggs’ ex-girlfriend Mulan Hernandez had filed a civil lawsuit against Diggs back in April of 2025 for alleged “physical abuse”.This lawsuit remains “open”.
Additionally, on December 22nd 2025, Diggs was accused of strangulation by none other than his personal chef. Allegedly over pay disputes, Diggs’ chef filed charges after the incident occurred on December 9th. This would leave an interesting window of almost two weeks for Digg’s personal chef to retaliate by poisoning his food. However, this particular chef opted for legal justice instead. Unfortunately for Chef, legal justice was never served much like Digg’s dinner on December 10th, as a jury found Diggs innocent and not guilty of felony strangulation, as well as the assault and battery charges.
As 2025 seemed to be a crazy year for Stefan Diggs in the courtroom, he was also putting in work in the bedroom. In 2025, Diggs had allegedly sired 4 children. In addition to his other two children not born in 2025, Diggs welcomed a child with model Aileen Lopera and another child with Cardi B, revealing that they did in fact have some sort of relationship brewing at the time of “the boat incident”. The other mothers of Diggs’ mystery 2025 babies have not yet been unearthed by the 5th Quarter Sports Media team.
Diggs’ 12 million dollar contract couldn’t have come at a better time. But could this star find trouble in the DMV? Questions arise as he enters camp with the Commanders:
Will Diggs endure another 1,000 yard season? Will the Commanders exceed .500? Will Diggs be spotted on a boat on the Potomac this summer? Will another baby be welcomed to the DMV in 2026? Will Stefan Diggs choke another chef who makes all of his meals?
Only time will tell what Diggs will bring to the Commies. Hopefully, he keeps his mischief on the field during his tenure in DC.
